Hi, I’m Will.
Currently, I’m a Developer Advocate at JetBrains focused primarily on the PyCharm IDE. I am a Python Software Foundation Fellow and former Django Board Member, which speaks to the fact I’ve been involved in both communities for a while, more than anything else.
I’ve written three books that are now in their fifth editions: Django for Beginners, Django for APIs, and Django for Professionals. I also run the website LearnDjango.com and since 2019 have co-hosted the Django Chat podcast and co-written the weekly Django News newsletter.
Previously, I was the third employee at Quizlet, an early employee at Meta Search, which was acquired, and the founder and co-founder respectively of two other startups that no longer exist. I also taught computer science at Williams College.
These days I spend my time trying to sort out what AI means for all of us, frequently give conference talks, and maintain a number of open source packages.
As a final note, I’m an avid reader and keep a mostly up-to-date list of books I’ve read and recommend over here.
